A photograph is history. Not only a historical document, but often the only record of a special event, a family get together, or the image of someone long passed away.
All too often, these important photographs have been damaged over time. Whether the image is faded, stained, torn or in pieces, restoration can help to some level. The days of horrible fixes with faded scotch tape or writing names on the front are long past and we want our treasured memories to look great again, in our digital albums, and as prints on our walls.
This workshop will teach you the basics of photographic restoration.
I will cover everything from where to start when getting the images into the computer including scanning techniques and best practices to the very critical "how to I fix this problem" scenarios. Topics to be covered will include
- Correcting a black and white image that has faded or yellowed
- Correcting a colour image that has faded or developed a colour cast
- Repairing minor tears and scratches
- Repairing dust specks and areas where the emulsion is damaged
- Removing stains
- Removing handwriting and ink marks
- Putting together a photo torn to pieces
- Filling in missing parts
- And more...
Why pay a service when you can do the work yourself, build skills while doing so, and know that you personally saved a piece of history? You shouldn't and so you should attend this workshop.
Each attendee will need a laptop computer with Adobe Photoshop installed and activated. I recommend Photoshop CC to make following the demonstrations easy but CS 5.5 or higher should be fine. Images will be provided to you for the workshop to work on.
The fee for this workshop is $50 CASH, payable on the day of the workshop. A member who cancels a registration with less than three days notice is liable for a $25 cancellation fee.
